Probably the most eventful ride I'd made yet, as Al led Neroli, Ian &
your's truly over some of the wettest, muddiest terrain I've cycled
in/on/under/through. No reflection on Al - after all, it has rained an
awful lot over the last few weeks, so it could only be expected.
First halt was for Ian to attempt to prize his chain from between the two
smaller front chain rings where it seemed to be inextricably jammed. When
we restarted, Al discovered his front tyre was flat, so there followed a
frenzy of non-functioning or non-compatible inner tubes & pumps being
conjured into existance. Eventually all was well & we continued.
A short while later, whilst turning off a road onto a bridleway, my bike
inexplicably slid out from under me, leaving me with a torn finger, badly
bruised elbow & hip. Thanks Ian for the first aid kit - very handy.
About to start off again, & Neroli - bringing my bike to me - spotted that
my front tyre was flat. There was the cause of the dismount, then. As my
finger was still occupied with bleeding, Al very kindly replaced my inner
tube with a spare provided by Neroli.
Eventually made it back to the Lord Nelson after 3 hrs, where much
recuperation was had amongst Greene King Abott, IPA, nachos, & pizza
towers!
